One of the best wedding presents I received was an invitation to a fundraising dinner for the Hambo Foundation. It took place last month….. with celebrity guest Jonny Wilkinson. Here we are!
The Hambo Foundation
The Hambo Foundation was set up by ex-rugby player Matt Hampson (or Hambo as his friends call him)!
Matt was seriously injured during an Under-21’s rugby training session. Paralysed from the neck down Matt has struggled to live as normal a life as possible. He set up the Foundation to help those who have suffered similar injuries as a result of sporting activity, and he acts as a mentor and advisor to young people across the country. His recent book “Engage” received critical acclaim and won a Sports Book of the Year award. The Hambo Foundation’s ethos, epitomised by its founder, is “Get Busy Living!”
Jonny Wilkinson and the keys to his success
Celebrity guest Jonny Wilkinson took part in a lively Q & A session. The answers he gave highlighted the way in which he has had to overcome many setbacks and injuries in order to attain the success he achieved. Train hard and practise, practise, practise was his message.
His guiding principle is to just do what you have to do and Keep Going. A principle which resonates well with Hambo’s “Get Busy Living” approach.
Matt and Jonny are both truly inspirational people. After attending this event and learning more about Hambo, I came away inspired and motivated to keep working hard and to persevere to achieve my goals. Or to “Get Busy Living!”
