Running an Ultramarathon!

This month’s Superstar Personal Training Client is Ultra Marathon hopeful, Steve Rooke.
I’m a Running Addict!
Steve is a self-confessed running addict who especially loves long-distance running. He has run marathons and half marathons and now his goal is to run the 50 mile Chilterns Wonderland race! His lifetime dream goal is to run the length of the UK.
“I enjoy running because it allows me to escape the pressures of life. And I want to see just how far I can push myself. Running makes me feel good about myself and confident. I get a sense of achievement every time I come back from a long run.”
When the going gets tough Steve reminds himself of these advantages which running brings him.
Steve takes his running very seriously and reads lots of books and magazines about it. Everyone who wants to be a runner should read “Chi Running” Steve says. It’s a guide to running based on Tai Chi and is designed to prevent injuries through an effortless running style.
Steve’s Running Tips
Steve likes to stick with his Brooks trainers! He believes that they are a major factor in keeping him injury-free. He makes sure that he rests when he needs to, and he is working on doing more stretching. He says the best advice he has received is to do more stretching, and to watch what he eats.
Steve uses the Nike app to manage his training regime. He is not worried about finish times but constantly sets himself new goals in terms of race length and difficulty. Hence his current goal – to complete the Chilterns Wonderland 50!
About the Chilterns Wonderland 50
The Chilterns Wonderland 50 takes place on September 16th. It is a single loop around beautiful Chiltern countryside, starting and ending at Goring on Thames in Oxfordshire. The route takes in 5600 feet of climb and passes through many picturesque villages, many of which have been featured in films and on television.
It is also Race 3 of a 50 mile Grand Slam! The other races are the North Downs Way 50, the South Downs Way 50 and the Wendover Woods 50. All the races are organised by long distance running specialists Centurion Running.
How Personal Training helps Steve
I help Steve by building up strength in his core and legs and doing some overall body conditioning with him. This ensures that his whole body is contributing to his running effort and takes some pressure off those hardworking legs!
If your goal is to run an Ultra Marathon, get in touch with me. I’ve run the 38-mile Downs Link Ultra Marathon, and I’ve helped many clients like Steve achieve their running goals. Including Robin, who ran the super-tough Marathon des Sables this year.
I’d love to help you achieve your marathon running dream!
